I have been using fleece all week! At least that is how it feels anyways. I made 5 hats – two of which are for charity (more in the coming month). I also started working on Anne’s project. Check out the current state of my cutting table:
So if you know Anne at all, you will know that she picked this fabric out all by herself! She is going to be a Pink Tiger for Halloween. As soon as she saw this fabric there was no question in her mind that of course cats come in pink! I have a coordinating solid too. Yesterday I got the main bulk of pattern pieces pinned, today I will cut them all out (or try to anyways).
Note: I need new fabric cutting scissors. I have very nice Gingher Dress Makers Shears, but truth be told, they really hurt my hands. Being that my psoriatic arthritis is in my hands scissors are hard for me. These ones are hard for me to open and close and they are super heavy, I would love recommendations for a good replacement pair.
On my actual design wall are some awesome Riley Blake Fabrics! The South Sound Modern Quilt Guild is participating in the national Modern Quilt Guild fabric challenge this year. Pictured below are the fabrics our guild was sent:
We are allowed to add solids and any other Riley Blake fabrics that we like. I have them sitting up there in the hopes that by staring at them I will become magically inspired!

I like my fiskars. They are nice a light and have a smooth action. I inherited my grandmother’s ginghers and they are just too heavy. I never use them.
I love it. She is going to be the cutest, brightest, hippist kitty cat around. She is such a lucky girl to have a mom who lets her choose fabrics and sews for her. My children still talk about the Halloween costumes I made and they are 28 and 25. You are leaving an awesome legacy for her.
I’m sure you will find something terrific for those modern fabrics. An idea will strike you out of nowhere. I love Anne’s idea! It sounds perfect to me. =) I have no recommendation on shears. I use Gingher’s, too. They have them that are lighter weight with plastic handles, I think. Or maybe Fiskars? They are lighter.
The best scissors, besides Gingher, are Kai. Kai Shears The professional ones are awesome, but cost 3 times the regular ones. Most large shows they show up – Rusty Barn usually, and others. My 8″ Fiskars are my best bet. When I purchased them I didn’t know if it was a wise choice but they are easy on my hands. They are light weight, very sharp and easy to open and close. Can’t use my Gingher shears either. 🙁 They are way to hard on my hands.
I use Fiskars that I find to be very light weight and they have always worked well for me. Mine are the 8″ multi layer scissors that are designed to cut easily through several layers of fabric. Joann Fabrics carries them for 24.49 and you could get them for much less with a coupon. I bought mine several years ago when Costco had a package of different types of Fiskars sewing scissors (at least 4 pairs) for an unvelievable price. I bought them without a second thought and have never regretted it and now wish of course that I had bought more.
That costume is going to be worn for many more occasions than Halloween 😉 The costumes made for my kids always were!

I have the Ginghers dress making shears that are spring loaded. No one I knew had them but I figured I’d try them out. I didn’t notice that much of a difference for small things like cutting out 5″. Then I cut out a clothes pattern and there was a Huge difference. I cut some of it with those then for some reason I don’t remember (two projects at once and left them in a different room?) I had to use non spring loaded shears. So much harder and harder on the hands. The next project I started with the normal ones and was thinking, why is this so hard? Then remembered the Ginghers and ran to grab them. Made all the difference in the world. I would never want to go back to non spring loaded ones ever again.
Well of course cats come in pink…
