I did it! Despite throwing my back out, I spent 5 hours yesterday, sitting on a heating pad and sewing. I know I couldn’t have finished if I had needed to cut anything but luckily I cut out everything a week and a half ago. To date, this is the most complicated pattern I have made. This is only more complicated than Elsa from last year because there were so many more pieces. I still disliked sewing Elsa more – that slippery fabric was AWFUL!
This is Simplicity Pattern 1557
Here she is, the sleeve gauntlets are made, she even has a bow and arrow (thanks Nana and Baba).
I made her the cape to go with it, she was a little upset that I didn’t do the applique on the front that the pattern shows, but we watched the movie this weekend and when I pointed out that Merida does not have an applique of herself on her dress, she was fairly satisfied that she didn’t need one either.
I just love the way she looks with the cape on! This costume will last forever because it was 6 inches too long and instead of cutting the excess off, I simply folded it up and hemmed it, that way as she gets older I can let it down and it will last a little longer.
I don’t consider myself a clothes person, but the more I sew for Anne and the more I see the joy it brings her, the more I enjoy it. I will always be a quilter first but I will do just about anything to put a smile on my baby’s face!
Happy Halloween to all who celebrate, and happy princesses to those who don’t! I for one have a very happy princess in my house right now!
PS. You have until Halloween to link up your October Finish! Get on it!
Looks wonderful!
You did a lovely job! She makes a beautiful princess with the t great big smile!
What an awesome costume. What a lucky girl to have a mom who can make such a fun costume. One that will be enjoyed for years to come.
You did it. What a lovely princess and she looks so happy.
Hope your back feels better soon. It’s a great costume. I would say by the huge smile on her face, that it was a big hit. Congrats!
She looks perfect as Merida! Just what I imagine she would have looked like at this age. I love the cape. A warrior woman doesn’t need her name or symbol on her cape to know who she is. That’s just for male heroes. LOL Supergirl said that wasn’t an S for her, it was her family’s coat of arms. So there ya go. Did Superman ever say that? Not that I remember! You did a wonderful job on the dress, and on the girl.
Congratulations on your finish!!! She looks adorable in it…smart to make it extra long so it will last for a few years!! My “finish” is still on the frame!! Need to kick it into high gear!!!
Yep, we’ll do most anything for our kids. And sewing for them is a special way to say I Love You! Keep it up! The costume looks wonderful. And thanks for the reminder about ALYOF. I finished mine already! Need to post about it.
I love it and clearly, she does too.
Oh my what an under taking. It looks great and it sure looks like your little princess loves it too!!
It’s a wonderful costume, and I’m sure she will have a fabulous Halloween because of your efforts!
Your little princess is lucky to have you for a mom! <3
