Retail Therapy

So yesterday was a rough one for me and Anne. Yet another cruddy medical diagnosis. Anne is now up to 5 different medications a day, and she just can’t seem to catch a break. Nothing life threatening just something I would rather her not deal with is all. So…to make up for the rough day Anne and I treated ourselves a bit. We started out with Starbucks on the way home from the hospital. She loves getting a scone and a Vanilla milk, yesterday though she got a cake pop – as I said bad day.  I got a Frappuccino and a cookie.

Now you would not believe what was in the next parking lot over?!? My absolute favorite local quilt shop, Ruby Street Quiltworks in Tumwater, WA. We drove over there and did some retail therapy!  I have been planning a little project for Anne since we were in California and went through some of my toys from the early 80s.  I want to remake something for her dolls that I had as a child (more on that later and hopefully a tutorial to go with it!). Check out the fabric she picked out:

She picked out Welcome to Bear Country by Moda. Go figure that she would pick the Berenstain Bear fabric…they are her favorite books and for a long time it was the only thing she would watch on TV.

When I was putting her fabric in my sewing room she picked up my magnifying glass – have I ever mentioned I’m blind as a bat?

I would like to introduce you to Inspector Gadget…Quilt Gadget that is!

What are you working on today?

Anne has such great taste in fabric!!!! I know medications are yucky but necessary and with a wonderful momma’s love like yours, it will go down much better and the day will be much brighter. I know from past experience with our daughters, medications can be awful – my oldest (30 now – 4 – 7 then) used to be on five each day and ten on Fridays – it is heartbreaking but kids are so resilient and just take it in stride. I know when our daughter would get her bone marrow tested and her chemo in her spine – she would cry for a bit when it was happening but a bandaide and a pop would make it all better but I was close to needing a valium. Take care of yourself and she will know your love and be taken care of with your hugs and kisses and love:)

I love shopping therapy especially with treats and fabric – great ending to an otherwise yucky day!!!!

Sorry for the not so great news at the Doctor, but at least you are dealing with a mystery illness. The fabrics are so cute as well as Inspector Gadget.

Your “inspector” has great talent in choosing fabrics, as well as being extra-specially cute! Hope the new meds are regulated smoothly and that both of you are feeling better. Warm hugs to you!

What a cutie! Always breaks my heart when kiddos have any medical issues…especially ongoing. But, wow, she’s got great color sense…love those fabrics. Good luck and thanks for sharing. Have a great day

It is a dark path to walk when your child is sick long term, been there, but eventually you arrive in the sunshine. retail and treat therapy side by side with medication has got to be good. My thoughts are with you. Pam

  12. Gene Black says:

Anne picked a a great selection. I can’t wait to see what you make with it.

So sorry you and Anne are having it rough. Hope the meds help. As for the fabrics — Anne has FANTASTIC taste. Can’t wait to see what you make. I’m working on 12″ blocks for a Christmas block exchange. Four quadrants with 4 little flying geese all meeting in the middle in Christmassy colors. I’m paper piecing it – I wanted to challenge myself. Took it to my quilt retreat and wouldn’t you know it, I ran out of the background fabric. Not to fear, one of my friends had 3 YARDS of it and gave me a yard so I could finish them all the same. Don’t you love how generous quilters are?? Have a GREAT day.

I had a bit of retail therapy myself this week, but it was online. I’m afraid that I overdid a bit, but there are now 4 online retailers out there that are very happy! So sorry to hear that you didn’t receive the news you’d hope for. Hopefully this will help improve her life?

What a little cutie! You were wise despite a bad day — you managed to turn the day around, and have an adventure at the end! Her color sense is fabulous, and she will be SO excited to see you making something very special just for her. I am sorry that she needs to take so many meds at such a young age, and am hoping that they perform some health magic for her.

  16. Connie says:

Sorry to hear it wasn’t a great day at the doctor’s office. At least you got to go to Starbucks and also a fabric store!! I have a magnifying glass just like that next to my sewing machine too!

  17. Karen O says:

Sorry about the medical issues for your sweetie. You are in my prayers. One of my best friends from High School lives in Tumwater! It was a shocker to read that on your blog. Anne did a great job with her fabric.

  18. Susan says:

Her color sense is impeccable! What wonderful fabrics for any project at all. I hope Anne’s problems are outgrown soon, if that’s possible.

  19. Ivy B. says:

What a cutie. Glad you got both Starbucks and Fabric therapy 🙂
