This is me…stepping into the sewing confessional. I have a secret to share. In 2011 I made a Poodle Skirt for Anne’s Halloween costume. It was WAY too big for her, so big that it kept falling off, though perhaps if I had FINISHED it I wouldn’t have had that problem. It also didn’t help my cause any that my awesome mom bought the cutest tutu to go underneath it to act as a crinoline. Anne fell in love with the tutu and decided that she would rather wear that than the unfinished skirt. So I did what I thought any beginning clothes sewist would do, I just abandoned the project. Here is Anne on Halloween just before she turned 2. Get ready for some serious cuteness. (Oh! And there is one finished sewing project in these pics, her trick-or-treat bag was made by yours truly.)

Now that you have gotten through all the cuteness that is my baby and family, you can now see a pic of the finally finished poodle skirt. Anne still fits in it (which tells you how over sized it was 3 YEARS ago!) but will only fit it for about 3 more seconds.
And lets face it…in the eyes of an almost 2 year old this skirt just could never compete against that lovely and fluffy tutu skirt. Doomed from the first sighting of tulle!

Ha, no confessions of any kind. =) Okay, tiny one. I have completely lost a quilt top. It’s been lost for more than two years. I bought the final border and have never been able to find the top! It’s here … somewhere. =) The skirt is as seriously cute as the girl. I’ll bet the tutu under that skirt would have been great!
That’s so fabulous! Love the pumpkin. I had to smile with your comment “…she just brings so much joy and sunlight into my heart!” I feel exactly the same way about my son – I never knew it was possible to love and adore someone so much and they haven’t even said a sentence yet! 🙂

Oh yes! My daughter went trick or treating many Halloweens with her costumes not fully finished but enough so that no one else knew. I have made her a couple of poodle skirts and yours looks beautiful. I do know that my daughter would have opted for the tutu also at that age.
Confessions? Um, I bought a load of knit fabric to make myself some tops and dresses, but never did make them because I put on a pile of weight and didn’t want to waste it…
Sweet girl!! What fun to have little ones around during the holidays. My sewing confession is that I’m still muddling through handquilting a 25th anniversary signature quilt for my sister, and she is preparing to celebrate 32 years in January.
Love that poodle skirt! Sometimes it is better not to finish,as in this case. Now she will love and want to wear the skirt. Congratulations on a finished project from the past!
