I was so excited when I received an email asking if I wanted to participate in the anniversary blog hop for Jaftex Corporation! I received 3 bundles of Peppered Cottons, one for me, one for YOU, and one to make a beautiful quilted item with. When I first received the fabrics, I wasn’t quite sure how to show off their simple beauty. It would be so easy to use them and make something pretty, but the challenge I set for myself was to use them and make them sing. I had a notion for a non-tradition color wheel and started out in EQ7.
I ended up making my own template for the wedges, as I didn’t own one with the correct degree. Before piecing my quilt, I made a test quilt, I was afraid to cut into the fabrics and not have it be “perfect”. You can see that quilt in this blog post. Once I was certain that the design was a successful one, I started cutting and sewing. The top went together quickly. I ended up spray basting the large circle to the backing fabric and then fusing the center pinwheel to it. The center is appliqued down and the rest is quilted together.
To truly appreciate the beauty of this quilt, it has to be viewed outside in sunlight, my parents deck in California happens to be my favorite place to photograph quilts, they always look amazing on the weather wood. My favorite part, aside from the bright and beautiful fabrics, is the quilting. This is another one of my Zentangle Quilts. Check out the back!
As you can tell…it is a bit…ahem…heavily quilted. This is meant to be used as a wall hanging, so I am quite all right with it being dense. For quilts that will be loved and hugged on, I do prefer a lighter touch on the quilting, but I definitely went overboard on this one.
I came up with the quilting design by doodling it on a print out from EQ7, this process always helps me plan my quilting and I highly recommend it to everyone!
I have to say that having never worked with the Peppered Cottons before, I really didn’t know what to expect. When I received them, they were so soft, I just wanted to wrap myself up inside of them. That’s why this entire quilt, front, back and binding, are all made out of them. I wanted it to feel soft and luxurious to the touch, and believe me, it does.
So the big question becomes, who gets to keep this quilt? Anne or Mommy? She has already informed me that it is hers, but alas, her walls are filled with other quilts that she has “claimed”. Maybe this one will be MINE!

A little history behind the Jaftex Corporation:
Jaftex Corp. was founded in the 1930’s when Jacob A. Fortunoff started selling fabric on the streets of New York. At that time, the mainstay of the business was women’s sleepwear and lingerie. In the 80’s, Jacob’s grandson, Robert, dramatically changed the business of the company. The business focus was transferred to the over the counter quilt industry when Robert purchased companies like A.E. Nathan, Henry Glass, Stylemaker, Chanteclaire, Fabric Editions/Studioe and more recently The Blank Quilting Corp. Robert is now joined by his two sons, Scott and Greg. Scott currently is the President of Studioe Fabrics, The Blank Quilting Corp. & A.E. Nathan Co., Inc. Fav thing about fall is the change in temps–finally some relief from the summer heat, and the way the late day sun plays on the gorgeous fields ready for harvest.

Living in New Hampshire I would have to say the color. We are lucky to have spectacular autumn color. That said, the smell of Autumn is a close second. There is something about it. It’s fresh but slightly chilly. That said, there isn’t much I don’t love about Autumn, it is my favorite time of the year!

My favorite thing about autumn — it’s hard to choose! I love the re-established routine of school, etc. starting up again. I love the leaf colors and smell. I love the cooler temperatures, and I love starting to make more gifts for Christmas.

I love the beautiful coolness in the air, though right now we have the “Valley” fire in Calif, just north of us and we are praying for rain!!! I love your quilt: beautiful quilting on it and the colors look so rich. I saw a few of the peppered cottons at the store the other day, but they were only in neutrals, and I wished that I could have seen them IRL in the colors. Now I almost have, seeing the beauty of your quilt!

Melissa, I love your color wheel–especially how you paired the wedge colors and how you pieced some wedges with the background fabric. Really makes for a very unique and beautiful quilt! I live in Maine, so my favorite part of autumn is watching the landscape change color–especially the wild blueberry fields, that are everywhere here, turning bright red.

In south Florida fall means slightly cooler temperatures, high 80’s, and slightly less humidity. Can’t wait for the season everybody else calls winter.
I love the fall colors, but since we have moved to the south, I don’t get to see them. Down here I love the cooler temperatures. Today the high will be 82 degrees F, but by Sunday they are predicting temps in the 90’s.

I can’t decide on just one favourite thing about fall – but a few of my faves are all the wonderful warm drinks that are so comforting in fall, sweaters, and the riotous colours of the changing tree leaves.
I LOVE everything about Fall! The crisp clear mornings, the mountains all around our area with the red glow of the morning sun, pumpkins, holiday celebrations with family, my sister & I are both born in November, as well as one of my best quilting friends. I appreciate the cooler temps when I go out to walk the dogs each morning. I also like the earlier sunsets because I am encouraged to spend more evening time in my quilting/sewing room.

My favourite part of Autumn is Halloween! As soon as the first day of fall arrives, I go into full ghoulie decorating mode. And that includes a minimum of one new quilt project each Halloween.

Your Rainbow Spinner Quilt really does sing about your talent and creativity! My favorite thing about fall is the beautiful colors of the leaves as they change. I also like that the apples in our orchard are ripe for picking as soon as they’ve had a good frost. But alas, only 6 apples on our 8 trees this year as all the apple blossoms froze over Mother’s Day weekend. It will be so different to buy apples this year as last year we picked a thousand pounds and the year before about 3 thousand pounds of apples.

Impactful quilt with lots of movement. My favorite part of your Jaftex post is seeing your quilting plan. I am a piecer who loves graph paper. I doodle and sketch, keeping a quadrille notebook by the TV remote. To see your plan, so purposeful, makes me think in 3D. Thanks for the eye-opener.
I love that you sketch things out first. My favorite part of Autumn? I live in the desert south west. Autumn here mean only a couple more weeks of 100 degree days. It means I’ve made it through another desert summer by hibernating in air conditioning.

I like raking leaves and listening to the crunchy sounds it makes.
My faves things are the changing color of the leaves especially during a highway drive, the smell of pumpkin cookies and pies, apple cider, the last song of the cicadas, Merbs Bionic Apples, back yard fire pits, snuggling under a favorite quilt that I made.
My favorite thing about autumn is that time after the leaves turn but before they fall when they are ablaze with color.

I love the leaves changing colors, the smell of the fresh air as I cut off the air conditioner and open the windows and doors and the abundance of the fresh fall produce! Ah Autumn. The weather starts cooling, the pumpkins come out – finally it’s not too hot in the kitchen to make soup and bread. Yum. Plus I can sit on the sofa and sew on quilt bindings comfortably! lol
I love apple picking and then making my first apple pie of the season! It makes the house smell so toasty warm and inviting. Also making fresh applesauce to have throughout the winter months.
