Vintage Christmas Sampler – Scrappy Zig Zag

15 blocks down, 5 more to go!  This is the Scrappy Zig Zag block. It is block 1334 the Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns and is attributed to Nancy Cabot.  I drew the block out on my quilting graph paper and here is my final results:

This block could definitely be scrappier than I made it, but I like the simplicity of two colors.

Get the know how after the jump!

You will need:

Start by making your Half Square Triangles – you will need 4.

Layout your block so you can begin sewing sections:

Make 4 of each section as pictured:

Layout your block again then sew your top and bottom sections:

(Note: Keep checking your layout to make sure you haven’t inadvertently flipped one of the squares.)

Sew your top and bottom sections together.

Congratulations! You have now finished 14 blocks and have 6 more to go!

Please let me know if you have any questions about any of the tutorials already presented in my Vintage Christmas Sampler.

Happy Sewing!

I like it! Just 2 colors is good. It’s crisp with the contrast.
    Have a great weekend!
Looks like rain here in the foothills of Sacramento so tomorrow after I run to an open house at my favorite local sewing center and pick up my BOM in Folsom I will begin my Christmas gifts….finally. Been stressing over being gone for 2 weeks and then getting the house back in shape and not being able to sew. Now it will be a race to get finished.
